Seven Things About Me

I hardly ever participate in blog challenges or nominations, like never, but Stasia's nomination is simple enough: Seven Things About Me...

For starters, I want my readers to know above all else that I am a follower of Christ.  I'm so thankful for His grace, mercy, and love that I don't deserve.  I didn't put this fact on my "seven things list" because although it stands alone, it also shapes everything else about who I am.  I am nothing if I'm not His.

For God alone, O my soul, wait in silence, for my hope is from him. He only is my rock and my salvation, my fortress; I shall not be shaken. On God rests my salvation and my glory; my mighty rock, my refuge is God. Psalm 62:5-7

SEVEN THINGS ABOUT ME:

[ONE]  I've surprised myself: I said I'd never marry a pastor, drive a mini-van, breastfeed (still breastfeeding my 16 mo old.), or homeschool. NEVER SAY NEVER.

[TWO] I am a bonafide neat freak.  My house is "clean" when every single solitary thing is neat, orderly, and in its place.  I don't truly feel it's clean if things are out of place.  That's where I put the "freak" in neat freak. Being real...I easily fall into the sin-trap of striving for a clean house above all else and in doing so allow an idol to build in my life--I'm working on it.

[THREE] I HATE cats.  Not only do I hate them, I'm terrified of them.  Being scared of cats is something I despise about myself because it's not something I have been able to overcome.  It makes going to people's homes difficult (especially if we don't know each other well).  I've been known to FB stalk to check for cats around the house before going to dinner parties.  Sorry if this offends the cat-lovers.

[FOUR] I love music.  I play the piano and sing.  Soon, I will begin teaching my girls to play the piano.  I hated lessons as a child, but I'm so thankful for the ability to play now.

[FIVE]  I have been bitten by the Netflix bug and I'm all caught up with a few shows: The Mindy Project, Grey's Anatomy, New Girl, The Walking Dead.

[SIX]  I'm borderline extrovert/introvert.  Although I love being around people, I've found that I recharge by being alone.  I get over-stimulated easily and it takes me a few days to fully recharge after a lot of social interaction.  Case in point: One of my all time favorite things is going to the movies all by my lonesome!

[SEVEN] I have a few creative hobbies, but my most favorite is photography.  I'm not what I (or anyone else, for that matter) would call a photographer because my skills are that of a beginner, but I enjoy the entire process:  finding a location, staging, editing, and printing.  My close friend and photographer, Ashley, posted a quote the other day and I tried to find its originator with no luck.  I made a little graphic...

There ya have it...seven things about good ole' me.  I would like to nominate any one who wants to participate.  If you do, let me know so I can check out your list!

  1. I love that "In Christ Alone" graphic! That is one of my all time favorite hymns!

I'm cracking up at the thought of FB stalking to see if people have cats! :D

I'm an introvert/extrovert too! I can be outgoing and carry on conversations fairly well, and I do love going out with friends or having people over to our house, but I get overwhelmed and NEED time to recharge and be alone! I'm convinced my sanity is maintained by Saturday mornings alone with my favorite tv show or a good book!

  2. I have never heard of someone afraid of cats but I have always been very leery of dogs that I don't know. My Mom says it's because when I was little (barely crawling) we went to her friend's house that had a dog and it was not good with kids and it barked loudly right in my face (I was sitting on the floor). I am not sure if that is it or not but I wish I wasn't so afraid of them.

  3. Thanks for sharing, I loved learning a little bit more about you! I am totally with you on the needing to recharge solo after a lot of social interaction.

  4. I am laughing at #3!! Ha! I'm the same way, but with dogs. It's the face licking that gets me.

  5. Haha! #3 :) Me too! They hate me so I despise them. :-p I love that you listed being a follower of Christ separately! Have a great rest of your week, Leslie!

  6. Oh my about the cats! We just moved to the country and have seen so many snakes. Everyone keeps telling me that we need a cat...but the thought of them rubbing against my leg...ugh.

  7. Lana! So glad to "meet" you. I have officially FB, Insta, and Twitter stalked you. LOL. Really...it's so neat to meet another blogger so close by with similarities. I could definitely get some pointers about blogging and homeschooling from you. Thanks for stopping by.

  8. Dogs don't scare me like cats...unless they are tiny, yippy, and unpredictable. Then i'm terrified.

  9. Gotta have that "alone time" every now and again. thanks for stopping by Aimee.

  10. I have actually met a few people that share my fear. It makes sense to me...they are unpredictable, have claws, aren't known as "mans best friend", and they are just down-right mean. LOL.

  11. I'm a complete weird-o aren't I? I don't want to run into any "surprises" when I go to someone's home. That's my only way to find out besides asking and then that really is strange.

  12. Loved this post! Photography is my most favorite hobby too :) I also have the same definition of "clean", but organization just doesn't happen these days with my toddler running around haha!

So back when my husband and I were looking at homes to buy we were in this one home and when we went down into the basement all of a sudden this cat jumped off a shelf and ran in front of me... you would have DIED! I mean, I was freaked out and I like cats, so I can't imagine how you would have felt!

  15. Good morning. That little photo above about the most photographed generation and zero pics is so true. My mom was so good about photo albums until the digital realm took over. She has them all in books in date order. I love them because I know right where to go. I spend alot of time trying to find mine if I need to print something.
I loved your list because sometimes when we say never, God has a much different plan. I did the 7 things on my blog because I forgot to do the what I learned in August post :-)

  18. I can relate to pretty much every single point you said! I'm still nursing my 11 month old, and I always thought we'd be done at one year, but now I'm completely ok with going past that! Number 3 cracked me up! Not necessarily that you hate cats, but that you Facebook stalk somebody to see if they have any! LOL. I'm also borderline extrovert/introvert. I have a lot of qualities of both, but not completely one or the other. Wishing you a great weekend! :)

  19. So funny how you said you would never do those things and you have! Funny how things change! I used to think I was a neat freak until I met my mother in law. I think you and her are the same person in that sense! Haha :) Not a bad thing tho!

  20. I love posts like this, helps to get to know the blogger and that's always fun. I'm a neat freak too. Wishing you a fun weekend!

  22. Did not know you were a neat freak… but it makes sense with all the pictures of your house, I have never seen anything out of place :)
PS… not a big fan of cats either :)

  24. I know...I'm a weird-o. That's how bad I dislike cats!!!

  25. Yep...guilty as charged. Compulsive neat freak, but trying so hard to not let it consume me.

  26. Glad you liked the list, Kristy! I'm not above saying that I'm a little weird, but....that's me for ya!

  27. I like posts like this on other people's blogs, so I knew that people would probably find some of these things interesting...or weird...or both! Glad you liked it! NEAT FREAKS UNITE!

  28. I know...NEVER SAY NEVER! I am a ridiculous neat freak, but trying so hard to tame it a little!

  29. I know! I'm a weirdo! Cats are just not my thing! AT ALL...to say the least. Chelsea, I'm sure we'd have a lot in common with the other things! That's why I love blogging...getting to know other people with similar interests and seasons of life. Thank you for reading my blog!
