Day 8 | O Worship the King

Worship is sort of hard to define, but here are some notes I took from Spiritual Disciplines for the Christian Life by Donald Whitney:

WORSHIP IS FOCUSING ON AND RESPONDING TO GOD

God is worthy of praise:  the more we learn about Him and focus on Him, the more we are able to see how worthy he is of our worship.  As we study our Bibles and gain understanding we are able to see how He has revealed himself to us in His Word.

All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness.  2 Timothy 3:16

WORSHIP IS DONE IN SPIRIT AND TRUTH
We are to worship based on the truths presented in Scripture.  We worship God according to what the Bible says and not according to our own understandings.  We must worship in accordance to scripture.  And, we must worship not matter what--even when we don't feel like it.  Even our best efforts are laced with our flesh so we are to come before the throne of grace and call out to Him in worship regardless of our feelings.  Truth and Spirit = true worship

But the hour is coming, and is now here, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for the Father is seeking such people to worship him. God is spirit, and those who worship him must worship in spirit and truth. John 4:23-24

WORSHIP IS EXPECTED--PUBLICLY AND PRIVATELY

WORSHIP IS A DISCIPLINE TO CULTIVATE
Worship is the response of the believer in love with God--it's an overflow of the heart.  Worship grows us in godliness because as we truly worship we become more like Him.

How is your worship?  It shouldn't be something that makes you weary--if so then it's not authentic.  True worship comes from the heart and it's founded on truth.
