Day 17 | In the Quiet Hour - I wait.

In our day and age when do we ever just STOP--stop talking, stop moving, stop making lists, stop thinking about the day, etc.?  When are we alone in meaningful quiet time?  I'd guess rarely, if ever.  Am I right?

As believers, there are times when we should just "be still and know that He is God."  There are times when we should just remove the noise and remove the distractions and focus on God.

Check out these examples from our Lord Jesus:

"After he had dismissed them, he went up on a mountainside by himself to pray."  Matthew 14:23

"Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house and went off to a solitary place, where he prayed."

At daybreak Jesus went out to a solitary place."  Luke 4:42

If we are following Jesus' example, there should be times when we are deliberately alone to seek the Lord--in the stillness, in the quiet.

Why?  Obedience. "Be silent before the Sovereign Lord."  Zephaniah 1:7

In turn, we we can worship Him,  hear from Him, see our sin more clearly, see our need of Him even more, and we can be physically and spiritually restored.

Will you be still and quiet in order to grow in Him?

  1. I love this and many, many years ago when I was a young Mom an older lady in our church told me to never be so busy that I forget to just "be still and know." I have never forgotten her words. Happy week to you!
