Bad Days? You have those?

We all have bad days! In this fallen world, that's the way life works.  One of the things I've had to learn as a homeschool mom is that some days I just need to stop, take care of my family, and finish "school" at a later time. Yes...I'm a slow learner.

In the beginning, I would push and push to complete our school day just for the sake of doing so.  It wasn't good for any of us.  I'm slowly coming to the realization that we can make-up "school" in our own time.  Now don't get me wrong, we have "school" M-F regularly, but occasionally we take a day off here and there when I sense we need a break.  If I know in advance we are going to miss "school" for some reason (i.e. grandparents visiting), we try to double-up on the work. Honestly, that doesn't work great--it's kinda just being busy for the sake of being busy.

Balancing Principle: Bad days come so take a break and reconvene later.

Speaking of bad days...Graham had a stomach bug on Friday.  Yuck!  I tried to press-on through our schoolwork to no avail.  Thankfully, this time I was wise enough to stop and let the girls get some fresh air  while I took care of their sick daddy...and sanitized our home.

Bad days?  Yes.  Tomorrow is another day.

  1. YES! Love this. All to often we are scared to share about our "bad days." Our mistakes and blunders and mishaps. Love your heart to share the ups AND downs. That is true community!!!

    1. Elise, I try to "keep it real" on my blog. I don't ever want to paint a false picture of us...we are who we are and we aren't perfect. In this blogworld it seems that "everyone's got it together" and we know it's not true. You are right...I think it really builds community when we can be real and see one another's flaws. So glad to have met you in this blogland!
